BAF adjustments

What is the BAF surcharge?

The Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) surcharge is adjusted monthly for each route based on the fuel mix, MGO, HFO and biofuel prices, and the USD/NOK exchange rate. The current energy crisis in Europe and the Middle East is impacting marine fuel supply and prices, mainly due to sanctions against Russia and Iran and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, Europe must import more expensive fuels and crude oil from other regions, increasing transport costs. Fuel prices, including these additional transport costs, form the basis for BAF calculations.

Current BAF surcharge rates

BAF surcharge rates apply as follows per lane metre (LM):

1–30 september (NOK / LM)

  • Oslo–Kiel: 133 NOK (€ 12.2)
  • Larvik–Hirtshals: 133 NOK (€ 12.2)
  • Kristiansand–Hirtshals: 133 NOK (€ 12.2)

BAF surcharge rates apply as follows per lane metre (LM):

1–31 October 2026 (NOK / LM)

  • Oslo–Kiel: 155 NOK (€ 14,4)
  • Larvik-Hirtshals: 153 NOK (€ 14,2)
  • Kristiansand-Hirtshals: 153 NOK (€ 14,2)
